BARK RHYTHMS: “Contemporary Innovations &Ancestral Traditions” is an exhibition showcasing the fascinating world of hand-beaten bark paper and bark cloth at the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking in Atlanta, Georgia.

Materials:             Bark cloth paper and raffia

Process: Hand paper making, weaving, stitching and drawing by burning.

Reflecting on the societal expectations of a bride, the artwork embodies the journey of new beginnings. Using bark cloth transformation into paper, the experience is not only limited to process but placement from the studio to the audience demonstrating the point of detachment. “The Bride” is released from her mother’s care, from the grooming and nurturing then set out into the unknown world.

The Bride” is assumed to be fragile, yet maintains a concealed resilience. The artwork is made using hand paper making from bark cloth incorporated with weaving, stitching raffia and drawing by burning. The process and journey refine The Bride.
